VOLCANO ERUPTION IN JAPAN

By: San

Mt. Ontake in Japan has erupted on Saturday causing seven people to be unconscious, eight seriously injured and more than 250 stranded on the mountain by the ash and small rocks that is spewing out of the volcano. Mt. Ontake is 200 km (125 miles) west of Tokyo.

With a loud  sound like thunder, Mt. Ontake spewed large white plumes high into the sky which covered the surrounding areas in ash. It is reported by the Meteorological Agency that the 3,067-meter (10,062-foot) peak erupted just before midday and sent ash pouring down the mountain's south slope for more than three kilometers. It is also reported that so far, there are no sign of lava. The agency also warned the public to stay away from the mountain because the ash and other debris could fall up to 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) away.

I have attached a video below which is from BBC that clearly shows the volcano eruption:

For you guys who are planning to go in or out of Tokyo, the officials at Tokyo's Haneda airport and Japan Airlines said there were no disruptions to flights in and out of Tokyo.
