ALIBABA'S LARGEST SHAREHOLDER IN
TALKS TO BUY DREAMWORKS STUDIO

By: Uncle Sam

It has been reported that Japan's SoftBank Corp is in talks to acquire DreamWorks Animation SKG, the Hollywood studio behind popular animation movies like "Shrek", "How To Train Your Dragon" and "Madagascar".

SoftBank is in talks to purchase DreamWorks Animation SKG

SoftBank is Alibaba's biggest shareholder and its stake in the newly listed company is said to be worth around  $71 Billion. If SoftBank succeeds in purchasing DreamWorks Animation,  it would make SoftBank the third Japanese company to buy a Hollywood studio, following Sony Corp which bought Columbia Pictures in 1989 and Panasonic Corp., which bought MCA, the owner of Universal Studios in 1990.

And for those of you guys who don't already know, SoftBank also owns Sprint Corp., an American celular network company. Looks like its not going to take long before SoftBank becomes a household name in the U.S. if it continues its shopping spree buying American based companies.
